Irene   |   Not the end
Irene is a song for a friend that was going through a hard time. I was able to sum up exactly what I meant for her in a song. It’s about being comfortable in your own skin and not being afraid to speak up as a woman and also not being afraid of being who you are. Sometimes it’s really hard with all of these magazines and other influences in life to be comfortable as a woman.
Not The End is a love song, an ode to somebody who is traveling on the road and wishing and hoping from far away that this love won’t end ... having a hard time coming to terms with not being able to speak to that person face to face, but instead thousands of miles away. It’s the opposite of a heartbreak song. I was listening to a lot of Townes Van Zandt while writing the album. I drew a lot of influence from him as how to use imagery in a song ... not just to say something, but say it with a place and feeling in mind.
